ACCEPT THE BREAD (2-11-10)

Mark 7:28
“Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.”
---------------------------------------------

I like dogs. I have dogs as pet since I can remember. There was even a time when I have three at the same time. And I still remember my mother scolding me for giving some, if not, most of my lunch or dinner to feed them. But I would still secretly do it. It’s man’s best friend, right?

Today’s gospel again tells us that anyone is entitled to salvation. The Greek woman is considered as a Gentile. And Jesus would test her faith by telling her that she is not entitled to His mercy and healing (for her daughter). But she argued that even “dogs” can partake of the bread being offered by God through Jesus.

And she passed the test. Her daughter was healed…

That bread of heaven which was rejected and thrown away by the Jews is now received by the Gentiles.

But there is a warning.

If we do not receive that same bread of life from the hands of Jesus, then it will be taken from us. If you are going to Christ because you want Him to tell you how wonderful you are, then don’t bother.

But if you are a loser, then call out to Him and He will help you. You are his best friend, right?

An answered prayer because we believed!

Let us pray +

Almighty Father, into your most holy hands I commit the keeping of my heart, asking you for health of soul and body, in the certain hope that you, my most loving Lord, will hear my prayer. To you I entrust all my hopes and consolations, all my trials and miseries, my life and the end of my life. Amen +

Remember us, O Lord, as you favor your people.
