Second Sunday of Lent
Luke 9:35
“This is my chosen Son; listen to him.”
-------------------------------------------
In elementary school, we learned about the word “Metamorphosis”. The prefix "meta" means to change and the "morphe" means form. We know that butterflies and dragonflies undergo metamorphosis.
The word "transfigured" is translated from Greek word "metamorpho" from which the word metamorphosis came from. It also means to transform, literally or figuratively to metamorphose, or to change. It also means to change the outside to match the inside.
In the case of the transfiguration of Jesus Christ it means to match the outside with the reality of the inside. To change the outward so that it matches the inward reality. Jesus' divine nature was "veiled" in human form and the transfiguration was a glimpse of that glory.
The Son of God came to earth in the form of a man to be the true servant of God and to gift mankind with the greatest gift ever given, eternal life.
The transfiguration of Jesus Christ was a visible sign in the presence of reliable witnesses of the reality of the power of God and the glory, which is Christ Jesus.
And we are all called to receive and exudes that same glory. May others see in us the reality of God that is within us.
And as we metamorphose into what He wants us to be, may we also facilitate the transformation of others to receive the same glory that is within us. God is with us, and may others see Him through us.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, we open our eyes and we see Jesus, transfigured to a beam of light, the light of the world, Your light. May your light shine upon us forever. We see Jesus, not casting us off, but leading us down, leading us out - to minister to people, so Your love endures forever. Amen +
The Lord is my light and my salvation.

PERFECT WILL (2-27-10)
Matthew 5:48
“So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
---------------------------------------
We all say that nothing is perfect. And this thinking would push man to commit sins in total disregard and obedience to God.
Drunkenness, smoking, watching pornography, committing adultery, having relationship with a woman other than your wife. Sometimes, it would really be our own decision why we did it.
And most of the time, we committed these grave sins because of peer pressure. And isn’t that how the devil tempted Eve to sinning against God? And the truth is, you can't escape it – it is everywhere!
The Bible have repeatedly talked about the wicked ways the men would rather choose than following the will of God through His words and teachings. And most of the time, we did it because we were following the ways of another wicked man.
And as we do it repeatedly, it then becomes the norm – it becomes the standard way of living - which is really very unfortunate. God can deliver us from temptation and negative peer pressure if we pray for it.
And if temptation does present itself to you, say “no” quickly and get away from the difficulty.
Always stand up for what you think is right. And the Bible is clear on what is right – “delight in the law of the LORD and meditate on His law day and night”. And then exert your own pressure to them. Show them the way to right, Godly living. Stand your ground and show them that going with the Lord is the right way. In fact, IT IS THE ONLY WAY!
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, I constantly face peer pressure – in my work, at home and at play. Please guard my heart and my life and let my life be examples to other – to resist violence, cigarettes, drugs, scandals and alcohol – so I may become the person You want me to be. Amen +
Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!

REWORK (2-26-10)
John 1:16-17
“I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.”
-----------------------------------------------
In any manufacturing process, any “NG” or “not good” parts can have the option to be retested if it is indeed not worthy to be shipped to the customers. From there, it can either be reworked, recycled or totally scrapped as unusable. These unusable parts are then called “dead parts” for they cannot anymore function as expected.
When God put us into this world, we are all free of worldly sins. But as we go through this process called “life”, we experience things that make us commit sin to others and to God.
And like in any manufacturing process, we need to inspect and re-inspect our heart if we need some rework, unless we end up “dead” in the eyes of God. Re-inspecting our self involves letting God in our hearts and listening to His Words so he can heal all our sufferings and relieve all our doubts.
We are to repent so as to remove the obstacles that keep us from abiding in Christ. Doing this, involves getting our heart to hear the truth of the scriptures so that God can use His word to change us from the inside out.
Remember, we are not things. We are living person with free will. But it is hoped that we use this free will to serve God and be obedient in His words.
Whether it is repentance from willful rejection or repentance from ignorance or disinterest, it is a change of mind. And in relation to salvation, it is changing your mind from rejection of Christ to faith in Christ.
Let us pray +
Dear Lord, I pray that you will not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions. Lord I turn from all of those sins that I committed and I ask for Your help in washing the memory and thoughts of that sin completely from my mind. Please restore me to faithful obedience to Your Word, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit anew. Amen +
If you, O Lord, mark iniquities, who can stand?

GOLDEN RULE (2-25-10)
Matthew 7:12
“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.”
-----------------------------------------
If you do not want to be harmed, do not inflict harm to others.
If you do not want to be cheated, then do not cheat on others.
This is the golden rule… do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you.
But with Jesus, He took it into a positive note… “Do unto others what you want others do unto you.”
So if you want to be loved, you must also learn how to love.
If you want to be successful in life, you must help others to follow that path to success also.
Just think how many great changes would be made if we all start practicing Jesus' teachings.
Every individual would be kind, loving, and considerate to those with whom he came into contact with, because this is how he desires to be treated.
As you get acquainted with Jesus, you'll come to know God. As you learn to follow Jesus with your heart and being, you'll be keeping the first and most important commandment, to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind.
Isn’t this how you want to be treated?
Let us pray +
Teach me to love, Lord, as You love,
Make it unconditional, honest, and kind,
To ask nothing back in return, Lord,
To encompass the whole of mankind.
Amen +
Lord, on the day I called for help, you answered me.
“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.”

SIGN UP (2-24-10)
Luke 11:29
“This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it…
------------------------------------------------
An atheist professor told the class that he was going to prove that there is no God. He said, “God if you are real, then I dare you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you 15 minutes!” Ten minutes went by He kept taunting God, saying, “Here I am God, I'm still waiting.”
He got down to the last couple of minutes and a BIG 240 pound football player happened to walk by the door and heard what the professor said. The football player walked in the class room and in the last minute, he walked up, hit the professor full force, and sent him flying off the platform.
The professor got up, obviously shaken and said, “Wow, where did you come from and why did you do that?” The football player replied, “God was busy, so He sent me!”
Christ is sending us in the same way that God sent Him.
Suffering and hardship were part of Jesus’ mission and we should believe that they should be part of ours to. This will involve us in a degree of discomfort. Church should not be a place where we expect to be comfortable and free from challenges.
We are on a mission. WE ARE HIS MISSION. We have no options. Our mission, announcing the coming of the Kingdom of God through word and deed, is part of what it means to be a Christian.
You can’t say that you are not interested in mission and evangelism and still claim to be a Christian.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, You sent your Son to carry out Your mission of redeeming the world. Let the light of Your Gospel of love so shine in the world that it may be transformed into a worthy home for all Your children of every race and country. Amen +
A heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn.

DELIVERANCE (2-23-10)
John 1:16-17
I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
------------------------------------------
We have life insurances. We have medical, memorial and educational plans. We always try to prepare for the future, not for ourselves only, but for our children and those that would be left behind.
There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, those are becoming necessities now, especially with the continuous rise in prices of goods as well as unpredictability of the things happening in economical and political arena.
However, we must also think about today, for what we do today will affect the generation to come. We should always continue to teach our children about the ways of the Lord, totally committing to following and obeying His Words. And only then would our future be secured.
Loving God is just too important for a passive approach to growth. Take action! Become a wise and understanding teacher. Make your heart your student. Determine to have fun getting your heart to hear the many reasons to love and treasure God more.
If we continue to love God with all our hearts, all our souls, and all our minds, we need not dread the future.
For us, God reserves a glorious and magnificent future where we shall live in joy and peace for eternity. May His love deliver us from the devil and help us create a future that is full of life, joy, obedience and love.
Let us pray +
God, my Father, may I love You in all things and above all things. May I reach the joy which You have prepared for me in Heaven. Nothing is good that is against Your Will, and all that is good comes from Your Hand. Place in my heart a desire to please You and fill my mind with thoughts of Your Love, so that I may grow in Your Wisdom and enjoy Your Peace. Amen +
From all their distress God rescues the just.

UPON THIS ROCK (2-22-10)
Matthew 16:18
And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
--------------------------------------------
He denied our Lord not just once, but three times.
He tried to imitate the Lord and walked on water, but his faith simply cannot sustain him.
He was even likened by the Lord to Satan, for he cannot accept that the Lord Jesus would have to die for our sins.
Simon Peter is a simple man, a fisherman, that was called by the Lord for His ministry. And as a man, he has weaknesses and frailties, that could make him an easy target for the devil.
But unlike Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus and killed himself, Simon Peter repented, asked for forgiveness and was forgiven. And as soon as he accepted the Spirit of the Lord, he started preaching and sharing the Word without fear and hesitation.
Satan may see us an easy target. We may even fall into sins.
But it is in rising up again that would make us a better individual, fully believing that the Spirit of the Lord could sustain us in our spiritual life.
We are all called to a life of ministry. And once we strengthen our faith like a solid, rock foundation, then even the devil cannot prevail upon us.
Be that rock… strong in Spirit, truly believing, and reliant in the Lord.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, who hast given unto Thy blessed Apostle Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven, and the power to bind and loose: grant that we may be delivered, through the help of this intercession, from the slavery of all our sins: Who livest and reignest world without end. Amen +
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.

FORTITUDE (2-21-10)
First Sunday of Lent
Luke 4:1-2
Filled with the Holy Spirit, (Jesus) was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, to be tempted by the devil.
---------------------------------------------
When you live in a foreign land, away from your family, the temptation from the devil is all the more, stronger. In fact, the devil will always tempt you when you are at the lowest state – physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
As Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, when He was hungry after 40 days of fasting, the devil will always find a way to tempt us to sin against God.
The devil will tempt you to work on your own, without asking God for help.
The devil will tempt you to give you riches, as long as you worship him.
The devil will tempt you to test God, telling you that God is not all-powerful.
And all the more that you should cling on to God for help, wisdom and protection. Allow His Spirit to come into you, to fill you with His presence, and to envelop you with His love.
Pray… and talk to Him.
Sing… and glorify Him.
Meditate… and receive Him in your heart.
It is Satan’s lies versus God’s truth. That’s why Jesus did not say “I think”, but he said “It is written”. And Jesus learned God’s Word in the same way we learn it – by reading it, by memorizing it, by learning it, by meditating on it, by applying it to our lives. In the end, we would all be victorious!
Let us pray +
Beloved Jesus Christ: my Lord, my King, my Savior, my God. You who are God, but also were man, who was tempted by the devil as any other human being, please give me the strength to reject sin and the grace to remain spotless as you are. Reign in my heart with your Power, Wisdom, Love, Peace , Grace, Purity, Mercy, Glory and Joy. Amen +
Be with me, Lord, when I am in trouble.

REPENTANCE (2-20-10)
Luke 5:32
“I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”
------------------------------------------------
We all thought that the GPS (global positioning system) is malfunctioning. It brings us to places that we are not familiar with. So there were times when we override the GPS, turn around and follow the road we thought was right. And the more that we get lost.
God’s Word is our GPS through life.
It may bring us through places that we are not familiar with – problems, sufferings, sickness, health problems – but God knows what is the correct road for us.
So, we do not override God’s GPS. Once we override it and go through life on our own, then we would be all alone. And the more that we get lost.
So at this early, repent of your sins – change your mind, turn around and follow the GPS of life with the Lord.
God’s philosophy should be at work, not ours. The salvation that Jesus offered is for all. But He gave it first to those who are poor in spirits – for He “did not come to call the righteous, but sinners”.
And in today’s gospel, that simple act of humility has earned Levi the promise of Heaven. Levi got up and followed him. Levi found righteousness in the Son of God. Levi made no assumptions. He saw, he listened, and he believed. He trusted the One sent from God because he trusted God.
May we, too, live by faith, and not by assumption. We are sinners - spend more time with Him, let us follow Him and earn the promise of Heaven.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, Your Word is life to me and health to my spirit. Jesus Christ is my Lord and I'm a product of His love. I have joy, I have peace. Knowing that I am a sinner, so I seek His love more. Amen +
Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.

PENANCE (2-19-10)
Mark 6:56
“The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.”
--------------------------------------------------
Today is the first Friday of the Lenten Season. And on all Fridays of Lent, everyone is enjoined to do fasting.
Fasting is the most powerful spiritual discipline of all the Christian disciplines. However, remembering that fasting is a form of penance and self-denial, there are many other ways in which we can show God how sorry we are for our sins.
The prophet Isaiah was clear on this when he exclaimed (Isaiah 58:6-8):
This, rather, is the fasting that I wish:
Releasing those bound unjustly,
Untying the thongs of the yoke;
Setting free the oppressed,
Breaking every yoke;
Sharing your bread with the hungry,
Sheltering the oppressed and the homeless;
Clothing the naked when you see them,
And not turning your back on your own.
Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,
And your wound shall quickly be healed;
Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer,
You shall cry for help, and he will say: Here I am!
Almighty Father, we observe fasting out of love for You and not because we have to, and also to give us an opportunity to deny ourselves in other ways. Every Friday is a day to prepare for Sunday – the day that, for us who believe, is Easter every week of the year. For Sunday is never a day of fasting. Rather, it is the glorious Day of the Lord! Amen +
“I fast not because I want others to see
Rather, because I want to be what the Lord wants me to be.”
A heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn.

PROSPERITY (2-18-10)
Psalms 1:3
He is like a tree planted near running water, that yields its fruit in due season, and whose leaves never fade. Whatever he does, prospers.
--------------------------------------------
Money can buy you...
A skilled doctor but not health.
A high-priced psychiatrist but not peace.
A house but not a home.
Clothes for your children but not their respect.
A car but not safety.
Food but not contentment.
A Bible but not understanding.
A beautiful church building but not spiritual people.
Companionship but not friendship.
A wedding but not a marriage.
But God does not want us to also sit home in poverty with a depressed and lowly heart, either. No, that is the picture society has sown in our minds. You can still feel and know God while you are living in prosperity.
You are prosperous when you are able to produce, when you are full of life and when you are giving life.
Prosperity is producing for others and living for others like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season.
This is why all you need to prosper in everything is to know what the Word of God says, obeying the Word and putting your trust in Him
You can have it all and be prosperous...with the Word of God!
Let us pray +
Dear God, I surrender my financial affairs and concerns about money to your Divine care and love. I ask you to help me to understand my purpose in life and to act on that purpose with courage and strength. Amen +
Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.

PIETY (2-17-10)
Today is Ash Wednesday
Matthew 6:1 -18
“Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them. When you give alms…when you pray… when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites… And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.”
-----------------------------------------------
You can see them in the street – pictures of politicians with words telling the people about what he did, what he donated, what he constructed – all for the good of his constituents. All for show...so that, he will be elected the next time again, and "earn" more money that what he really give to his constituents.
You can hear them – "I have donated thousands of pesos in my Church, I have helped a lot of people when they come to me. I am saying this so you may also do the same thing it to others."
Yes, of course. But we must also take care not to perform righteous deeds for show.
Because our Father sees what is hidden and will repay us. For He is the true judge of our worthiness to be with Him eternally.
And the ashes imposed on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday are a reminder of our unworthiness and sinfulness that corrupts and stains us and leads to death (we return to the dust from whence we came).
Ashes remind us of our original sin and our need of redemption ¬ our need to be cleansed of sin and made worthy of Salvation. We also acknowledge the sacrifice of Christ, who forever substituted His own death for the "burnt offerings" made by Old Testament priests to atone for the sins of the people.
And long after the ashes on our foreheads were gone, may our hearts always remember the sacrifice that Jesus had done for the atonement of our sins. Always remember that not the ritual, but the truth of your heart and all the things you do for His glory, can earn you blessings from God.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, protect us in our struggle against evil. Help us to turn our minds and hearts back to you. Lead us into sincere repentance and renew our lives with your grace. May this season of repentance bring us the blessing of Your forgiveness and the gift of your light. Amen +
Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.

UNDERSTANDING (2-16-10)
Mark 8:21
He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”
----------------------------------------------------
If most of our friends are doctors, would that make us a doctor? Or if we always hang out with thrill-seeking people, would that make us the same as them also? Maybe, not.
So, even though the disciples have been with Jesus for three years during His ministry, they still haven’t understood why He is doing that in the first place. But they would even argue who is best among them in His eyes. They would always think that they are way above the rest since they were chosen by the chosen One.
But they are wrong!!! For in their hearts, they still cannot understand the true meaning of discipleship.
Same is true among us. We always think that we are first because we donate a lot to the Church. Because we minister to the needy… because we read the Bible… because we go to the Church on Sundays.
Still, we cannot understand. That being the true disciple of Jesus is knowing Him first, and accepting Him in our hearts. Believing in Him, loving Him and trusting in Him with all our hearts, mind, strength and spirit.
We cannot say that we are perfect, that we are righteous… unless God said that we are perfect and righteous.
Just live your life fully in Him – knowing that sees whatever you do for Him and to those that He loves most. Live a life of total humility, understanding that it is God who will ultimately decide if we would be with Him in heaven.
Let us pray +
Father, in the midst of our trials may the problem at hand not be the single focus of our prayers. Help us to seek You for godly understanding and patient endurance, so that our lives are spiritually maturing in the process of waiting upon You to answer our prayers. In His precious name we pray. Amen +
Blessed the man you instruct, O Lord.

PERSEVERANCE (2-15-10)
James 1:2-3
Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
-------------------------------------------------
“Perceived Severance”… when we encounter sufferings and trials, we always think the God has abandoned us. And so we start doing things that could harm our relationship with Him more. And until you know it, our life is totally severed from Him.
The bible is offering an answer to this “perceived severance” mentality.
“Perseverance”…
The challenges and crises of life can tax us to the very end of our strength, and in such times it is easy to want to give up.
But James offers followers of Christ another perspective. He says that while life is a battle, it is also a blessing: “Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful” (James 5:11).
There are Christians who started with a lot of fire but they burned out. The ones that have endured in the Christian life are those who ran slowly but with a steady pace. Day after day they come to church, comply with their duties and patiently await the coming of the Lord.
Will you continue with the “perceived severance” mentality? Or will you change your mindset and persevere with the Lord?
Let us pray +
Father, You bless those who revere Your name and delight in Your commands. Let my heart remains steadfast trusting in You and Your overall plan for my life. Help me to learn the valuable lessons along the way as I press on toward the goal for which You have called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Amen +
Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live.

LOVE (2-14-10)
Luke 6:22-23
Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven.
------------------------------------
LOVE…
LOVE…
LOVE…
Receive it…
Share it…
Live it…
“We love Him, because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19).
God did not love us because we loved Him, but He loved us before we even had the chance of loving Him.
He loved us even though we hate Him. He loved us even though we sin against Him. He loved us even though we do not love Him back.
And how? Just as we are in our sins God loves us, and for since we are in that state, He gave his Son to die for us so we may have the opportunity to join Him again in eternity in Heaven.
LOVE…
LOVE…
LOVE…
Receive it…
Share it…
Live it…
Let us pray +
Teach me to love, Lord, as You love, make it unconditional, honest, and kind, to ask nothing back in return, Lord, and to encompass the whole of mankind. Amen +
Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.

ABUNDANCE (2-13-10)
Mark 8:5
They replied, “Seven.”
----------------------------------------
I only seven 10-peso bills in my pocket. I need to pay for my jeepney fare, my lunch and maybe snack. And I cannot miss coming to school that day as I have the mid-term exam. And so, I go… continually praying that no one would rob me of my precious 70-pesos.
I reached school, lunch came. While walking back to my classroom, I met a fellow student. He told me that I can get my book allowance and monthly stipend from the cashier’s office. Wow… that is one week in advance!
I reached home with seven 100-peso bill and bought some food for Nanay and Tatay. From nothingness to abundance, we truly have a great and awesome God.
Before the miracle of feeding the multitude happened, Jesus and his disciples have nothing in them to feed the people. They even took the fish and bread from a boy. But Jesus would not let His flock go hungry.
Jesus took what they gave in faith and multiplied it many times. It was a miracle on a grand scale. He fed about five thousand men, besides women and children. In fact, they had twelve baskets full of leftovers!
By giving us His Son, our God brings life to all His people Jew and Gentile, completely satisfying our spiritual hunger and sustaining us through the power of His Word.
May He give you abundance in life as you totally give your life to Him, be obedient to His Words and share that same love with others
Let us pray +
Lord of Abundance, I ask, with all humility, for no less and no more than the gifts and blessings You intend for me. Help me to overcome the obstacles between myself and Your overflowing goodness. Teach my heart to pray only, "Your will be done." Amen +
We have sinned, we and our fathers…we have done wrong.

WELL DONE (2-12-10)
Mark 7:37
“He has done all things well. He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
--------------------------------------------
Ask yourself: What has Jesus done for you?
Anything? Something? Maybe, He did it yesterday, or just this morning…
How would you describe it? Are you happy that you got it?
Now, are you ready to share it with others – the joy and happiness? Are you ready to share Him and the blessings He can give?
Hear His words. Share His words.
We should always be moving forward and maturing in His grace and wisdom. I pray that you might open your Bible today and ask the Lord to teach you truths you’ll never forget… truths that will change your complete outlook on life.
Jesus, who has done all things well, stands ready to open your eyes to see the beauty of His salvation, to open your mouth to proclaim the glory of His redemption.
Accept Him as your Lord and Savior, and be ready to do great things as well for the Kingdom of God.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, we open our ears to Your words. May we forever live in Your words, constantly following Your will as we claim the promises of Christ into our lives. Amen +
I am the Lord, your God: hear my voice.

ACCEPT THE BREAD (2-11-10)
Mark 7:28
“Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.”
---------------------------------------------
I like dogs. I have dogs as pet since I can remember. There was even a time when I have three at the same time. And I still remember my mother scolding me for giving some, if not, most of my lunch or dinner to feed them. But I would still secretly do it. It’s man’s best friend, right?
Today’s gospel again tells us that anyone is entitled to salvation. The Greek woman is considered as a Gentile. And Jesus would test her faith by telling her that she is not entitled to His mercy and healing (for her daughter). But she argued that even “dogs” can partake of the bread being offered by God through Jesus.
And she passed the test. Her daughter was healed…
That bread of heaven which was rejected and thrown away by the Jews is now received by the Gentiles.
But there is a warning.
If we do not receive that same bread of life from the hands of Jesus, then it will be taken from us. If you are going to Christ because you want Him to tell you how wonderful you are, then don’t bother.
But if you are a loser, then call out to Him and He will help you. You are his best friend, right?
An answered prayer because we believed!
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, into your most holy hands I commit the keeping of my heart, asking you for health of soul and body, in the certain hope that you, my most loving Lord, will hear my prayer. To you I entrust all my hopes and consolations, all my trials and miseries, my life and the end of my life. Amen +
Remember us, O Lord, as you favor your people.

DEFILE NOT (2-10-10)
Mark 7:21,23
“From within the man, from his heart, come evil thoughts… All these evils come from within and they defile.”
---------------------------------------------
The tongue has great power to set ablaze. It can enflame either false accusations or truthful encouragement, prideful discourse or humble thanksgiving, bitter hatred or forgiving mercy.
What you say can either make or break you, and the person you are talking to. Ugly thoughts, ugly words – they can bring about decay in our hearts that can lead to conflict, hatred and lost of trust.
Devastating criticism, gossip, intrigue and machination are denounced in the Scriptures as the greatest sins after idolatry, because they are all violence against our brother, the image of God.
They are ways of sinning with the tongue.
What fills the heart is spoken by the tongue: from a good heart, good words are born, and no gossip stems from it against any person.
If we let our speech be molded according to the pattern of Sacred Scripture, then we will be like a healthy tree bearing good fruit for the uplifting of the Body of Christ.
Let only good things come out from your mouth – blessing, glorifying, appreciating, encouraging words - so you may receive the same.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, teach us not return evil for evil or insult for insult. We should return a blessing instead. This we have been called to do, that we may receive a blessing for our inheritance. Teach us to keep our tongue from evil and our lips from uttering deceit. My Spirit rejoices in Jesus Christ, my Savior. Amen +
The mouth of the just murmurs wisdom.

LIVING TRUTHFULLY (2-09-10)
Mark 7:6
This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me…
-------------------------------------------
I just came from attending the Sunday mass. The choir was good… and I enjoyed singing with them. The sermon is fantastic… next Sunday, I will attend that time slot, for the priest is better than the other one.
And of course, I will look again for that beautiful lady I saw in front row and next time I will sit next to her. And how about that smile… I need to show her that I am happy while singing those songs.
Familiar? Oh yes… no wonder our spiritual life is stagnating. And when we do not like anymore what we see or hear, we simply stop attending.
If only we had persevered to grow in our faith and honored God truthfully and lived a life of obedience to Him, then we would not be lost now.
God doesn’t want false expressions of worship any more than He wants false statements about people or circumstances.
Changing our facial expression is easier than changing our attitude, but true worship requires that all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength agree that God is worthy of praise.
The next time you enter His presence, honor Him truthfully. Listen to His words. Put your heart side-by-side with His heart, beating together as one. Only then can we really feel His presence in our lives.
Let us pray +
Glory to you, O Lord, for your love, for your mercy, for your patience. Glory to you, for forgiving us all our sins, for coming to save our souls, for your incarnation in the Virgin's womb. Glory to you, for your crucifixion, for your burial, for your resurrection. Glory to you for willing that the sinner be saved through your great mercy and compassion. Amen +
How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord, mighty God!
This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me…

TOUCH HIM (2-08-10)
Mark 6:56
…they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.
-----------------------------------------------
You will see a long line. People lining up so they can wipe their handkerchiefs or part of their clothing on the cross in the altar, fully believing that it can heal them of their sickness and suffering.
But more than the wiping, it is in believing that you are truly healed. Fully knowing that God loves us and providing that same love to others.
There is no greater love we could have than loving Jesus Christ.
For this love is not a one-way love.
When we go to Jesus…
…when we go on fighting the crowds of people who tell us that our faith is stupid or that we believe in an invisible, distant God,
…and when we persevere and work our way to Jesus in spite of all those who get in our way, Jesus is not only there to heal us.
He stops, turns, and looks at us and talks with us and connects with us. Our love for Him is not a one-way love.
Jesus heals… and loves us back.
Let us pray +
Heavenly Father, You are intimately aware of the struggle and pain I am experiencing. You know the desire of my heart to be healed of this illness. I ask now for Your healing touch. I know that You are able and that just like in Bible times, You can heal me. I pray that ultimately, whatever happens, You will be glorified through me, in Jesus name, Amen +
Lord, go up to the place of your rest!

AT YOUR COMMAND (2-07-10)
Luke 5:5-6
“Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.” When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing.
-------------------------------------------------
From being a child up to our death, we are used to obeying someone – our parents, then our bosses, then our spouses, then our children, our spiritual directors and even doctors, lawyers and more.
And we obey because we know that they know better than us.
Then how come a carpenter like Jesus would command experienced fishermen where to catch fish the most? But at His command, they would not just obey Him, but would obey Him with trust and belief.
And obeying God can produce great results. It could give us great blessings than we can even imagine – so great that our “nets were tearing”.
But we should not stop there. When we love God that way and are obedient to Him, then it also frees us to love others.
Obedience to God breaks down barriers and allows us to reach out in love to our neighbor. Even when that neighbor is someone who has wronged us, someone for whom we have intense feelings of dislike, someone who is not like us.
Can you see yourself loving that way and being obedient to God?
Let us pray +
Heavenly Father, who loved us so much, we are so grateful for Your unselfish act of creation. We know that there is nothing we can do to repay You for this wonderful gift, so we offer to You our lives, our beings, our obedience, and we ask that You would help us to live as You call us to live. In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen +
In the sight of the angels I will sing Your praises, Lord.

AN UNDERSTANDING HEART (2-06-10)
1 Kings 3:9
Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong.
----------------------------------------------
I said to myself, I would study well so I may become very rich someday. So I can buy whatever I want, go wherever I want and be whatever I want to be.
Foolishness of a child…
I know God had already forgiven me for thinking about that.
And now, we are not anymore kids, but we still think of the same thing. Getting wisdom for our own selfish ends.
No wonder God so loved Solomon during his time. He has all the richness of the earth for the taking, but he asked for wisdom above anything else. And that wisdom he used for the glory of God.
Solomon was a man of wisdom. He had wisdom to distinguish between right and wrong in order to serve God’s flock. And it came from his deep desire for loving God and sharing His glory with others.
He used the wisdom, not for his selfish purpose, but for the glory of God. It was the fruit of his love and fear of the Lord.
And “the whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart.” (1 Kings 10:24)
If we really love the Lord and God’s flock from our hearts, we must ask God’s wisdom to serve others. Then God will surely give us wisdom. Not because we need it, but because God wants us to have it in our hearts.
Let us pray +
Oh Lord, Your word is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. We pray for each other today, as we share Your great work with each other through our friendships.
Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all you lands.
Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong.

MY SAVIOR (2-05-10)
Psalms 18:47
The LORD live! And blessed be my Rock! Extolled be God my savior.
----------------------------------------------
When you are drowning, do you call out to yourself to save yourself? Of course, not. You shout for help so a lifeguard may rescue you.
Or when someone tries to kill you, do you dial your celphone number to call yourself for help? Definitely not, for you call police emergency numbers.
Then how come when you have problems, you call on to yourself – get drunk, shopping galore, eat and be merry – thinking that all these things can take away your problems.
And on the next day, more problems were added – headache, moneyless and high blood pressure.
And when it comes to problem of the spirit, you just shrug it off. Thinking that you do not need a savior and everything will be alright. You have yourself and that is enough.
No one can save except Jesus. The apostle Peter declared that “salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
I beg you, come to Jesus.
Come, even though you are helpless and burdened with sins and guilt. Come with full confidence in his goodness and kindness; the cross of Jesus is the proof of God’s love for undeserving sinners.
Jesus alone can save us, call out to Him, He is just a prayer away.
Let us pray +
O God, deliver me henceforth from all adversities and mercifully fulfill in me such of my desires as may be expedient for me. Hear me, and have mercy, for Thou art the Hope and Savior of all the ends of the earth.
Amen +
Blessed be God my salvation!

SHAKE THE DUST OFF (2-04-10)
Mark 6:11
“Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.”
------------------------------------------------
If I should have listened in the first place, I should not be in a bad situation that I am now…yes, if I should have listened.
Familiar thoughts? Maybe, you uttered this line yesterday, or maybe just this morning.
Sometimes people won’t listen. It could be a friend, or a family member… or it could be you.
No amount of reasoning or logic will convince you.
No amount of prayer moves you.
No amount of attention shown to you or energy exerted in your behalf will bring you on board with God’s vision for your life.
And then you may feel God just stopped talking to you. But that doesn’t mean He stopped loving you. He does, and He always does love you.
And if you are ready to listen, just turn to Him in prayers. He is always listening for your cries, for your supplications, for your request. And most of all, he is always waiting for your words of love.
Come on, listen to Him and never let Him leave your heart ever again.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, thank you for your grace. Thank you for your mercy. Thank you for your gospel. Please help me to not take rejection of your message by others personally. Instead, dear Father, please use me to help others understand that they are making a decision about their life, their sins, their eternal destiny, and the source of their grace. Amen +
Lord, you are exalted over all.

MIGHTY DEEDS (2-03-10)
Mark 6:2
“Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given Him? What mighty deeds are wrought by His hands!”
----------------------------------------
I still remember watching the cartoon series, Mighty Mightor, when I was a kid. When he raises his hands and holds his club aloft, and shouting “Mightor”, he becomes a superhuman version of himself and assumes superpowers to protect other humans from harm and danger.
And as a child, I also came to know another “mighty man”. His name is Jesus. However, he is not a superhuman. He is above human for He is God.
But because of love and humility, he became man and lived among us. And His mighty deeds and wisdom would forever be etched in history.
And in one single act of selflessness, He would raised both his hands and shout, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”, so you, me and all of us would receive salvation and be entitled to eternal life with Him.
And still, we would doubt Him. We would all be proud and not accept that He can do those things.
He comes to us in Scripture and the Church, and we have seen not only His goodness and love, but also His power. How many miracles has He done for us, how many prayers has He answered?
And yet has all that made us truly faithful and repentant?
Lack of faith does not render God powerless. It merely renders the faithless unworthy of His power. Accept Him and let His power run your lives.
Let us pray +
Oh Lord, we trust in You. May we keep in our hearts your mighty deeds and wisdom so we may forever believe in You. Let your power heal us and protect us in the remaining days of our lives. Amen +
Lord, forgive the wrong I have done.

GLORY FOR ALL (2-02-10)
Luke 2:32
“…a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.”
-----------------------------------------
Salvation is for everyone. It is not only for the Jews but for the Gentiles, at that time, as well.
Jesus had come to restore God’s children and renew their holy mission and purpose in God.
God was using Jesus to bring all those who had the faith to acknowledge God’s sovereign rule and God’s boundless love back to him, live as God’s children, and participate in the world salvation work of God.
We must therefore, yearn and learn to be the children of God and continually live under God’s blessing and God’s protection. The Lord God accepts anyone who believes in Him, His Son the Holy Spirit.
Are you ready to accept Him as your Lord and Savior?
And if you have already accepted Him in your life, are you willing to share that joyous feeling to others so they may experience the same joy?
May God bless us all and bear much fruit to God through our faith to be used by him as his children in this unbelieving generation.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, You want us to give thanks for all things, to fear nothing except losing You and to lay all our cares on You, knowing that You care for us. Protect us from faithless fears and worldly anxieties, and grant that no clouds in this mortal life may hide from us the light of Your immortal love shown to us in Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen +
Who is this king of glory? It is the Lord!

WHAT HE HAS DONE (2-01-10)
Mark 5:19
“Go home to your family and announce to them all that the Lord in his pity has done for you.”
-------------------------------------------------
Imagine winning in a contest. And you won the grand prize. Would you just keep it to yourself? Or would you share the good news with your family and friends? Would you just keep the money for yourself, or would you treat your friends to a dinner? Of course, sharing what you have is the most prudent thing to do.
And Jesus is more than a grand prize in a contest. He is far more than the money you won in a lottery.
Jesus is our salvation. He is the reason why we gained back the greatest prize there is… eternal life in Heaven with our Lord.
So what is holding us back to share Him with others – starting with our family and friends?
Are you forgetting what God has already done for you? In these tough economic times it is hard sometimes to keep looking up. We need to let God speak to us His Good News… as Christians we are not allowed to give up.
Sharing Jesus with others, or witnessing is to be an overflow of love and expression from a life now in Christ.
It is to be a natural, joyful and powerful part of each believer's life.
Let us pray +
Dear God as best as I know how I give my life to you. I believe Jesus died on the cross for me, arose again and ascended to the Father. I repent of my sins and trust Jesus to cleanse me, come into my life and save me. Teach me to share Jesus to others so they may also live a life fully with, through and in Him. I am not ashamed of Jesus! Thank you Lord, in Jesus name I pray. Amen +
Lord, rise up and save me.
