BRAGGING RIGHTS (08-28-10)

1 Corinthians 1:27
Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong…

She finished fifth from among the almost a hundred candidates from around the world. Ms. Philippines-Universe Venus Raj is all class – from beginning to end, even until after the pageant. She was, as all others that came before her, criticized for her response during the question-and-answer portion. For some, it was a “major, major” disaster.

But for Venus, she would answer the same if asked again the same question. She even advised her critics to shut-up and move on with their lives as she is moving on with hers. It is not wise to judge her and her whole person on just one question.

I have been guilty of the same. Sometimes, I would think of myself as superior in thinking than others and would judge that person’s mentality as lacking. I always thought that I have these bragging rights. I would forget that the wisdom I have now is nothing compared to God’s wisdom.

And so our own foolishness would judge us. Thinking that we are wiser and better than others will be the mentality that would cause our downfall. For God will not look at your earthly experience and knowledge, but rather on how you used these to make the lives of others better.

What the world thinks is worthless, useless, and nothing at all is what God has used to destroy what the world considers important. God did all this to keep anyone from bragging to him. So if you want to brag, do what the Scriptures say and brag only about the Lord.

Let us pray +

My soul will boast in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. And whatever I do, whether in word or deed, I will do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Amen +

Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.
