1 Samuel 3:10
Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.
-----------------------------------------------------
Each time my teacher would call on me to recite, I would readily stand up even though I don’t know the question, much more the answer.
Everytime my boss will email me or call me on the phone, I would readily respond, even though I don’t know the purpose of his call or the answer to the problem he is mentioning in the email.
And through our lives, the Lord has been calling us but are we responding and listening to His call? Most of the time, the answer is “NO”.
Perhaps in our great emphasis on praising God, we have almost forgotten how to listen for His small quiet voice, and then respond faithfully. It’s just as important that we recognize His voice when He does speak, so we may fully understand what He wants us to do.
Have you sat in quietness of spirit and listened to the pricking of your conscience by the Word of God? Has He quickened your spirit with the reality of some sin, or the peace of reconciliation with Him?
There is a time to speak, and there is a time to be still and listen to His quiet voice. We don’t have anything worthwhile to say until He speaks to us in private. And then, respond… fully knowing and believing in all the things He said.
God still speaks. How do you respond?
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, as You speak to our inner being, may we quietly listen, agree with Your voice, confess any known sin to You, claim the cleansing blood of Jesus alone for our sin, and obey, fully believing that “Him that comes to You I will in no wise cast out.” Speak Lord, for your servant listens. Amen +
Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.
