Luke 4:18
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.
------------------------------------------
Bring glad tidings to the poor? How can I do that? Because whenever and wherever I see them, they seems to be enjoying life better than me. They are always laughing, chatting, drinking…
Hmmm… maybe Jesus is pointing to another “poor”. Ah, yes, now I remember. He is referring to those who are “poor in spirit”.
So, does it mean owning nothing?
No, it is not necessary to be poor in goods to be poor in spirit. Poor in Spirit is an attitude of how we attach ourselves to property.
So, does it mean having a poor spiritual life?
No, we are called to deeply develop our spirituality as we become closer to God.
Poor in Spirit means acknowledging God's ownership of everything and that we are responsible to be good stewards of those things with which we have been blessed.
Our attitude should be one of faithful servants and not one of pride, envy, lust, and gluttony. We are called to use what we have and are given to provide for ourselves and serve God's people.
And we can only show this through service, with great love, to others. May You see the humbleness in our hearts from this day forward.
Let us pray +
Father, may we forever embodies humility – make the esteem effort to listen, accept others - no matter what their race, their religion, their education – or lack of it, or their station in life. Amen +
May they be prayed for continually; day by day shall they bless him.
