John 3:29
So this joy of mine has been made complete.
---------------------------------------------------
Today, my son, Mark, received his confirmation. This would complete his baptism when God our Father gave him new birth to eternal life. By baptism, a child of God is named and welcomed into the family of God´s Church. Parents come to the service to give thanks for their child and to provide a spiritual home for him or her, a community in which to grow and explore faith and the spiritual adventure of being a created human being. Baptism marks the start of this journey, reborn to a life of light and wholeness found in Jesus Christ.
By confirmation, the Holy Ghost is given to those already baptized in order to make them strong and perfect Christians and soldiers of Jesus Christ. Parents would ask God to pour out His Holy Spirit upon our children, to strengthen them in their faith and anoint them to be more like Jesus Christ. It is the perfection of baptism as we become more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.
And having received the gifts of the Spirit and become the defender of faith – we then start talking to God, giving our total selves to Him, in total silence and prayers. We retreat from this selfish world and enters His loving and heavenly presence.
Let us pray +
All powerful God, Father of Jesus Christ, by water and the Holy Spirit, You freed us from sins. Send Your Holy Spirit upon us to be our helper and guide. Give the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of right judgement and courage, the Spirit of knowledge and love, the Spirit of reverence in Your service. And all of these we ask through Christ our Lord.
Amen +
The Lord takes delight in his people.
