Luke 1:38 - "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The handmaid of the Lord. The Lord's mother. The Queen of Heaven and Earth. Mary, the blessed virgin.
But the best of all, she is Mary, our Mother.
She was given that opportunity for greatness, that out of humility, she readily accepted. But she knows right there and then, that it is not about her greatness, but rather, so that the generations to come would know the greatness of her Son.
Some of us may always think or say, "if I could only choose my mother." Did you know what? Jesus was truly blessed, for He was able to choose His mother. She made Him grow up strong, full of wisdom and the favor of God was with Him. Yet, she pampered Jesus like a human, not God - bathing Him, feeding Him, clothing Him, teaching Him and loving Him.
Most of us will always tell our mothers, "I will give you the best, mom." But Jesus gave His mother not only the best, but the greatest. He took Her to heaven and made her the Queen of Heaven and Earth. The mother of us all, in a place where she truly belong.
+ Let us pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for giving us Your mother. She has accepted the will of the Father, so she may conceive You and be the salvation of the world. May we imitate her humility, simplicity and supreme sacrifice so that others may realize the love You give. We accept her in our hearts, together with Your loving mercy. Amen +
