Luke 16:13
No servant can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other.

I was trying to watch the TV while doing my assignment. My mother would scold me and command me to turn-off the TV. “You cannot do two things at the same time, and finish both well.” It is true. Both in our physical and spiritual life.
Yes, we need money. We need this in this modern world to buy all the pertinent things we need in life. But being slave to money is the most disgusting thing to do in the eyes of God. For love of money corrupts our mind and our whole being.
So we cannot serve both God and money. We cannot even attempt to serve God with a divided heart. You would either hate one and love the other, eventually.
He that desires to be a happy child of God, will do well to ponder our Lord's sayings in this verse. If it is worthwhile to serve Christ at all, let us serve Him with all our heart, and soul, and mind and strength. Life, eternal life, after all, is the matter at stake.
Sometimes we get sidetracked by temptations and even commit sins, eventually. These desires of the flesh – money, vices, lust – would slow us down in our path of faith. We would even put an explanation to everything to justify all of these, that is, justify it to ourselves.
Ask Jesus to help us detest these self-centered desires of the flesh so we desire Him only, and be clothed in His likeness.
Let us pray +
Oh Lord, blanket our lives with Your passion and mercy so we can make our lives worth living. Clothe us with Your love and unending blessings so we may focus more on the beauty of this world, ready to embrace life fully and passionately serve others. Your passion, Your mercy, Your blessings, Your love – these are what I should really desire for. Amen +
Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor.
