Matthew 19:14
“Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
We are all once a child. Do you still remember those carefree days, spending the whole day playing, being mesmerized by what is around us, looking at our parents as our protector, and knowing nothing but understands everything? It was such joy and happiness as if the world would never stops, free of worries and problems, while living in a world full of them. When He came into the world, our Lord Jesus, became a child and grew in wisdom, age, and grace in the eyes of God and of all who knew him. Having been a child, Jesus welcomed children, believed in their dignity, obedience and humility so He held them up as a model for all who are seeking the kingdom of God. Parents, therefore, have a great responsibility in bringing to and not preventing their children from going to Jesus.
Children do need the help of grown-ups if they are to develop their individual gifts, and their moral, mental, and physical powers, and so reach human and Christian maturity. We cannot always be there to guard our children, but their proper upbringing in our homes, our example in the Christian way of life, and above all, our constant prayers for them will surely count a lot in bringing them closer to Jesus.
Let us therefore ask for God's blessing, so that we will devote ourselves to the Christian upbringing of our children and so that they will accept willingly the guidance they need.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, out of the speech of little children you have fashioned a hymn of praise. Look with kindness on these children whom the faith of the Church commends to your tender care. Your Son, born of the Virgin Mary, gladly welcomed little children. He took them in his arms, blessed them, and held them up as an example for all.
Amen +
I believe the children are our future,
teach them well and let them lead the way.
