HEAR IT, OBSERVE IT

Luke 11:28

“…blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

I have done a lot of training sessions on manufacturing quality and problem solving before. Thousands of people may have already heard me speak. However, I always tell them at the end of the session that in order for them to appreciate what they have heard and learned, they need to apply it in actual, real-life situations or problems. This is the main reason that when you get training on Six Sigma methodology, there is a gap of one month in between main topics so the participants can go back to their workplace and apply what they have learned.

The same is true in our Spiritual lives. Most of us may have gone to hear Sunday services and masses without fail every Sunday, and yet only a few has really observed what they heard and learned during the sermon in their lives. Upon leaving our place of worship, we sometimes forget already that God desires to come close to us more, to enter intimately into our hearts. But God will not force a way. God will knock and wait. Sometimes the first step we have to make in opening the door is to set aside time and quiet ourselves enough to listen and make others see Him in us.

Jesus wants us to be filled with the word of the Lord, saturated in it, soaking wet in it every day. He wants us reading it and studying it along with good commentaries, even memorizing it. Let our hearts burn with love and hope when we hear Scripture proclaimed at Mass. Let it help us wake up each morning refreshed and full of life, so that through them we hear God’s voice and are empowered to put on the virtues of God.

Let us pray +

Almighty Father, Let Your word dwell in us richly, as in all wisdom you teach, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts to God. And whatever we do, in word or in deed, we do everything in Your mighty name, giving thanks to You, our Father through Your Son, Jesus.

Amen +

Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
