“O God, be
merciful to me a sinner.”
Prayer… we all know
about it. We all know how to do it. Our parents may have taught us about it, and
we may have been doing it for years. Or,
we may also have forgotten to do it ever since.
I have been praying as long as I can
remember. I was taught to pray in the
morning, before meals, after meals and before retiring in the evening. All through my life, I have experienced the
power of prayer – in times of family trouble, marital trouble, financial
trouble and personal difficulties.
But, I am also guilty of praying like the
Pharisee, who always see myself as far better than the other. One time, I prayed that God punish our
neighbor for being a humor-monger, that may God cut-off her tongue. I also prayed that a classmate lose his
eyesight because he always cheat during exams.
I don’t know, but I may still be doing this
unknowingly. I do pray that I stop all
of these and that those people whom I prayed with harm would forgive me – “O
God, be merciful to me, the sinner that I am!”
For those of us who are too often guilty of
this, we need to bow our knees, confess our sin, receive God's forgiveness, and
beg that the will of the Lord be done above our own. Let God enter our hearts through prayer, and
let Him cleanse our hearts, fully understanding that we are all sinners. But we must also know that God has forgiven
all our sins, and we only need to accept that we are sinners needing His mercy
and love.
We pray because we know that God hears us
and because we desire to see results. We
should pray by faith, trusting God. We
should pray consistently, trusting God.
We should pray for healing, trusting God. We should pray for others, trusting God.
Let us pray +
Almighty
Father, we are all sinners, so
I am not really better than others. And
for that, I humbly and silently pray with all my heart and thank You. Amen +
It is mercy I desire, and not sacrifice.
