“Look, you are
well; do not sin any more, so that nothing worse may happen to you.”
Upon reading this verse, you may say that
this is difficult to do. We cannot get
away from sinning, because we are just a mortal being – weak and prone to
commit mistake.
Yes, that may be true.
But, let us look at this logic of ours one by one.
First, we say that “we cannot get away from
sinning”. Yes, we live in a sinful world
for this world is not where we belong.
We belong somewhere else together with God in Heaven. And so, in this world, temptation would come
and go, and sometimes we give in to them and commit sin. So, let us accept this as true.
Second, we say that “we are weak”. This has been the issue since the time of
Adam and Eve. They give in to the call
of the devil, because they are weak. And
within us, the continual struggle between good and evil prevails. And because we are really weak, most of the
time, we give in and commit sins. So,
let us accept that this is also true.
There is nothing wrong with our premises. Even God knows that we are sinners and so He
gave His only Son to die for our sins.
What is wrong is our conclusion, “that because we are
weak and just mere mortal”, we cannot avoid sinning. All the more reason we need to call on God
through prayers, to be with God and to obey what God wants us to do.
We are weak, so get the strength from God. We are mere mortals, so the more that we need
to improve our spiritual life and live a life that is rooted in God’s love. We may sin again, but we know in our hearts,
that God will forgive us again, if we only repent and reconcile with Him.
Let us pray +
Father, I am
heartily sorry for having offended You and I detest all my sins, forgive me and
help me amend my life. Amen +
The Lord of hosts is with us; our stronghold is the God of Jacob.
