Matthew 5:26
“Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.”
-----------------------------------------------
We call ourselves, human beings – the most intelligent beings in this world. We know everything there is to know and would want to know. And yet, we have to realize that we are just tiny creatures in this very vast and ancient universe. That we are not whiz kids, for we often cannot tell right from wrong, or good from evil. That we do not really know everything, because we are easily confused, and bent toward making wrong decisions. That we are not perfect, for we are distracted by our lusts and passions, often sacrificing long-term good for short-term pleasure. We sin and sin and sin until sinning becomes the norm in our lives.
It is obvious that we cannot save ourselves, we need someone to save us.
And someone did! And He paid for it up to the last drop of His blood. And even luckier for us, we don’t have to pay for our freedom with our lives because Jesus has already taken care of that for us. With His blood and sacrifice, the ransom for our sins has been paid. And because of this, we have paid for the last penny, free at least from the claws of the devil. God had the option to save us by just a single stroke of His hand. But He did not choose that. He chose to wait and to undergo the long, painful and hard process so that people may truly learn and believe in Him.
Lord Jesus, I always trust in Your words and in Your promises. Your gift of salvation is a gift of love. As I have accepted You as my Lord and Savior , I know that I am now under greater responsibility to make sure my life, and the lives of those I love, are in total obedience to Your Words and Your will.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, help me choose the right words and the right actions so I may resist temptations. I don’t want to be forever in the mercy of death, so I continually seek for Your love and forgiveness. Teach me to turn from my wicked ways and finally, sin no more.
Amen +
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD; LORD, hear my voice!
