Luke 15:24
“…because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found.”
---------------------------------------------
The first time I learned about the story of the “prodigal son” was through my father. We were walking back home at that time when he asked me and my brother, “so what is the gospel today all about?” We were not able to respond immediately. Actually, I don’t even know what or how to respond. I have not been listening at that time, maybe busy thinking of what to do when we get back home. That is when he patiently related to me the story. And from then on, I would always be listening attentively during gospel-reading and to the sermon. I was a prodigal son, that has came to know and found the real meaning of being a Christian.
But now that we know that we are saved through Jesus Christ by accepting and serving Him, let us not forget that we need to be the same light to others. We should not let ourselves to be the “other son” in the parable, who thought he was the only one worthy of God’s forgiveness and grace. Everyone is called to accept Him, and we should be the one to spearhead this in this world. Knowing Jesus means great responsibility – of keeping ourselves in Him and letting others know Him. Seek those who are lost and introduce Jesus to them.
And I do really thank You, Oh God for making my father the instrument in revealing your love to me.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, You have shown the “love that never gives up”. I would sometimes choose the wrong way as I live through life. But it is You who even constantly seek for me so I may return back to the right path, like the shepherd who looked for his sheep and that woman who seek for her coin. This is what true love is all about. A patient love… a love full of forgiveness. Lord God, help me to grow in my ability to love You fully and all of my brothers and sisters around me.
Amen +
The Lord is kind and merciful.
