How blessed are those who are pure in heart, for it is they who will see God!
In refining silver, the silversmith needs to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities. He had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. And not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
Maybe, you would then ask the silversmith, “How do you know when the silver is fully refined?” His answer would be, “Oh, that’s easy— when I see my image in it.”
If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has His eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.
Almighty Father, keep my heart pure for You. You have created me in Your likeness and image. You are the absolute example of purity, and to be with You, I must also be pure. And yet, You still love and take care of me, in spite of being impure and disgusting. Always keep me under the warmth of Your love – molding me, turning me around, heating me up – under Your watchful and caring eyes, until You see clearly Your own image in me.
Oh Lord, search our heart and cleanse us of all that would keep You from being our “first love” always and in all things. For You are everything to us, for You alone can fulfill our deepest needs. We seek Your mercy, we seek Your compassion as we glorify and praise You forever and ever.
“I am just a handful of dust
With Your breath, becomes a living soul.
My heart’s for You, I put my trust
To be like You, is my only goal.”
Whatever is honorable, whatever is pure, if there is anything of excellence - keep thinking about these things.
