Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord
Matthew 2:10-11
They were
overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with
Mary his mother.
Jesus was born in
Bethlehem. They fled to Egypt and then
returned to Nazareth. And He grew up
with His parents until He was ready to spread the Good News of salvation. And all of these happened under the watchful
eye of Herod and his minions.
And yet, when the Magi looked for Jesus,
they were able to locate Him immediately and even guided by a start so they can
pay homage to Him. And at that time, His
glorious being was shared to the world.
And so, what is it in Herod that he failed
to see Jesus? First, because his eyes is
closed to the fact that there will be a greater King than him. He lust for power, and that lust covered his
eyes to the truth. And he will kill
anyone who would try to grab that power from him.
Secondly, because he is a sinful man who
would not repent. Being able to see
Jesus is to accept all your mistakes and resolve to change and mend your
ways. Sinning without repentance is the
characteristic of Satan himself.
Lastly, he has everything that is
worldly. He has in his disposal a great
army, riches and worldly things. And
with that, your mind becomes pre-occupied and forgot to think about the Lord
who provided you with those.
Let us not be Herod of the modern
times. Let us open our eyes, admit that
we are sinners, accept Him as our Lord and Savior and totally offer your life
in total service and obedience to the one true King and God.
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, You revealed your Son to the
nations by the guidance of a star. Lead
us to Your glory in heaven by the light of faith. Your light is strong, Your love is near; draw
us beyond the limits which this world imposes, to the life where Your Spirit makes
all life complete. We ask this through
Christ our Lord, Amen +
Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.
