Mark 12:29-30
The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
----------------------------------------------------------
It is not just a kiss or a hug, or a simple “I Love You” which we normally give to our loved ones to show our love. It is not just a saying sweet things and thoughts similar to the content of our love letters.
Jesus did not say just to love. He said we must love the Lord with our WHOLE heart and soul and with ALL our mind and strength.
With all our heart… That means we must be thankful for everything in our life, past and present. Thankfulness to God is an indication of a heart that has right standing before God. Out of a thankful heart will flow our true expressions of love to God, including praise, worship, and obedience.
With all our soul… Loving God with all our soul means to love him with our whole being, with who we are. Loving God with all our soul means our personality and our identity will be defined by our love for God. And as grow our faith in Him, we continually change for the better towards perfection in Him.
With all our mind… Our mind has to get engaged with constant renewal of how we think about our life and our relationship with God. We must say: “I need to think rightly – my mind must be engaged with loving God.” Once we learn how wonderful God is then our feelings will follow and will allow us to act in total obedience to His Word.
With all our strength… Loving him with all your strength suggests loving him with all our energy, with our best effort, with all our physical ability. Love God with all our strength by spending ourselves for Him – by surrendering our life to God!
Let us pray +
Almighty Father, may I love You in all things and above all things. Place in my heart a desire to please You and fill my mind with thoughts of Your love. Amen +
I am the Lord your God: hear my voice.
