And when Paul laid (his) hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
Whenever we go to a new place, where we are unfamiliar with, we always ensure that we bring with us a map of that area. A map can show the street that you live on or it can show the countries of the world. Maps will help people find their way from one place to another. It will also record all types of information about people, places, and things.
In the map, all location is relative. In order to assess the direction, one has to specify the starting point and everything else will be described as a certain distance or direction from that point. In our spiritual journey, God has given us a map. The Bible shows us the way to salvation and the way back to our Lord. However, in order to understand the direction, we specify a starting point. That starting point is no other than the Jesus Christ. We should first accept Him as our Lord and our God. We should first accept Him as the Son of God, where everything starts and ends. And from Him as the starting point, we follow His path for he is the Way that we follow.
Being lost and finding Jesus is experienced in our personal lives. New situations bring with it new challenges. When our lives make a sudden turn, we feel lost. We feel that we are moving without a sense of purpose. Even if we have in our hands a map or a plan in order for us to reach our goals, an unexpected situation throws us off balance. And we just don’t know how to get there. In all of these, it is great to know that even Jesus is not with us physically, He has given us a great advocate, the Holy Spirit. Through the Spirit, our hearts are opened to follow only Him. The Spirit has placed in our hearts the map to eternal life. Follow our hearts towards Him – Jesus is the Way that we should follow.
Spirit of wisdom and understanding, enlighten our minds to perceive the mysteries of the universe in relation to eternity. Spirit of right judgment and courage, guide us and make us firm in our baptismal decision to follow Jesus' way of love. Spirit of knowledge and reverence, help us to see the lasting value of justice and mercy in our everyday dealings with one another. Fill our lives with wonder and awe in your presence.
Amen +
Show us the Way. Strengthen us, Holy Spirit, that we may defend all that is holy.
