Solemnity of
the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Luke 11:46-47
“My
soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior…”
According to the Catholic
theology and Catechism, the Virgin Mary, “having completed the course of her
earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.” Her acceptance into the glory of Heaven is
seen as the symbol of the promise made by Jesus to all enduring Christians that
they too will be received into paradise.
SHE IS OUR MODEL. She
is a model for us all, in modesty, obedience and humility. By her complete adherence to the Father's
will, to his Son's redemptive work, and to every prompting of the Holy Spirit,
the Virgin Mary is the Church's model of faith and charity.
SHE IS OUR MOTHER. This
motherhood of Mary in the order of grace continues uninterruptedly from the
consent which she loyally gave at the Annunciation and which she sustained
without wavering beneath the cross, until the eternal fulfillment of all that
God has promised to us. Taken up to
heaven, she did not totally forgotten us, instead, through her obedience and
powerful intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation.
Let us give honor to our Mother +
Mama Mary, full of grace. Truly it is right to bless you, O God-bearer,
for you are most blessed, most pure, and the Mother of our God. Without corruption, you gave birth to God the
Word: True God-bearer, we magnify you! Glory
to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: now and ever and to ages
of ages.
Amen +
The queen
stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold.
