LET IT BE DONE (03-25-11)

Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

Luke 18:7
Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”
--------------------------------------------------------------

Nine months from now and it would be Christmas. Not that I am in a hurry, but I am just saying that today is when the Lord Jesus was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. Hence, nine months from now, it would be His birthday…

And the Annunciation would signify two great things:

God's action in entering the human world in order to save humanity.

And, humanity's willing acceptance of God's action in Mary's freely given acceptance of the task of being the Mother of God

And all of these would not have happened if a girl from Jerusalem had said “no”. Through Mary’s act of faith, she fully cooperated in God’s plan of salvation – a plan that He cannot carry out without her “yes”.

And in this present age, God is also asking us to conceive His Son into our hearts, into our soul. Hear the call, hear the annunciation – as we are all called to have it done to us according to His will.

For we are all the handmaid of the Lord. And we are all called to a life of obedience to His will. And it would not obedience borne out of being afraid, but borne out of trust, fully believing in His promise of salvation, so someday, we can join Him in his Kingdom in Heaven.

Rejoice, for today, we celebrate the beginning of our salvation!

Let us pray +

Almighty Father, You have revealed the beauty of your power by exalting the lowly virgin of Nazareth and making her the mother of our Savior. May we become more like Jesus Christ, whom we acknowledge as our Redeemer, God and man. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen +

Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.
