Luke 17:26
“As it was in
the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man…
The year is again
nearing its end. Would the end of the
world not be far? Don’t ask me, for I
don’t really know. Only God the Father
knows when it will be – even Jesus doesn't even know as He told His disciples: “No one knows about that day or hour, not
even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father”.
But what I know is this.
We all need to be prepared.
We must all be ready and watchful,
For “the day of the Lord will
come like a thief. The heavens will
disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth
and everything in it will be laid bare”.
As St. Peter has all warned us, and so we
must be prepared –
“You ought to live holy and godly lives as
you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of
the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are
looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness” (2
Peter 3:11-13).
Are you ready for the last day?
Let us pray +
Almighty
Father, help us to be ready for Jesus' sudden coming. Shake us awake. Help us not to be lulled to sleep by the
unbelief Teach me the true value of material things so that I do not cling to
them. Help my eyes to be ever looking
for His appearing. In the holy name of
Jesus, I pray.
Amen +
The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
