SUSTAIN ME, LORD (02-02-12)

Luke 2:35
Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “…and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
-----------------------------------------------------------

What will you do or feel, if one day, a doctor will approach you and tell you that your son or daughter is dying of cancer and it is only a matter of time?

Or that your newly-born child is a special child, that you have to spend more than the usual time in taking care of her?

Maybe you would feel weak – very weak. Or you would like to scream, hoping that this is just a nightmare – that tomorrow will be okay. And then you start blaming yourself and others, making the matter worse than what it is. Is that how you would react? Is that how you should react?

Ever since the Archangel Gabriel announced to Mary that she will be the mother of the Son of God, she already knew what will be consequences of that good news. She knows that she is bound to suffer also like Him.

But this did not prevent her from raising up Jesus like a normal child. And through her and her husband’s guidance, “the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.”

There may be times when she would think about that time when Jesus has to die. Maybe, like us, she would like to scream and would feel very weak. But she carried on. She accepted all of these obediently. For she fully knows that it is God’s will and not hers, and God sustained her.

Sometimes, we thought that we already have the biggest problem in the world. And yet, most of the time, it is nothing compared to what others are suffering right now. All we need is to bring them all back to the Lord, fully knowing that He alone can sustain and carry us through all of these.

Let us pray +

Almighty Father, carry me, sustain me, rescue me. You alone understand the pain and suffering I feel now. Only you can give me peace. Amen +

Who is this king of glory? It is the Lord!
