LAST SUPPER

Maundy Thursday

John 12:8

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.

Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him. He said to them, “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Let us pray +

O Lord God, this night Your Son instituted for us the great sacrament of His Body and Blood in the Eucharistic meal. In this way, on the night before He was to die, He chose to reveal His deep love for us and to provide for us communion in Him.

We remember that He said, “This is my body... eat indeed. This is my blood... drink indeed... He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in Me and I in him.”

May we who celebrate this eucharist find fulness of love and continue to show the fruits of redemption in our lives. We ask through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end.

Amen +

For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.
