1 John 5:16
If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life.
The film is titled “SE7EN” (seven), which stars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, is about two homicide detectives' desperate hunt for a serial killer. His twisted agenda involves choosing seven victims who represent egregious examples of transgressions of each of the Seven Deadly Sins. Viewing himself as akin to the Sword of God, he hands out horrific punishment to these sinners.
The seven deadly sins, also known as the capital vices or cardinal sins, are a classification of vices that were originally used in early Christian teachings to educate and instruct followers concerning (immoral) fallen man's tendency to sin. When committed, these sins destroys the life of grace, and creates the threat of eternal damnation unless either absolved through the sacrament of confession.
LUST. Usually thought of as involving obsessive or excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature.
GLUTTONY. The over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste.
GREED. St.Thomas Aquinas wrote that Greed was "a sin against God, just as all mortal sins, in as much as man condemns things eternal for the sake of temporal things."
SLOTH. The modern view of the vice is that it represents the failure to utilize one's talents and gifts - more a sin of omission than of commission.
WRATH. Inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger.
ENVY. Desire something that someone else has which they perceive themselves as lacking.
PRIDE. Failing to give compliments to others though they may be deserving of them; an excessive love of self.
Almighty Father, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all my sins, because of your just punishments, but most of all, because they offend you, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. Help me, Oh Lord, with the help of your grace, to sin no more, and to avoid the near occasions of sin.
…since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
